Who Am I

I'm Marcel Apperloo, born in Enschede in July 1960, a few months after my grandfather Marten Apperloo passed away. He knew my mother was expecting me, but unfortunately I never met him.

The story of Toosje van Praagh was part of my family history. When I was young I found this picture in the family album. I was told it was Toosje, who was in hiding with my grandparents during the Second World War. It was like a fact of which I never understood the real meaning until Toosje visited my parents in the Netherlands in the 1990's.

I became increasingly aware of the events of WWII. I was even able to meet Toosje in Jerusalem in 2006 and together we visited the museum of Yad Vashem. Since then we kept in contact by mail.

On this site you'll find the story of Toosje and het family during the Second World War. I dedicate this site to Toosje and her family.

Stolpersteine

On June 20, 2024 we placed three memory stones (Stolpersteine) in The Hague, two in front of the house at the Spaarnestraat 25, where Toosje lived with her family at the beginning of the war. One stone for her mother Rosetta van Praagh -Godfried and one for her sister Eva van Praagh.  The third stone is placed in front of the house at the Zwetstraat 42 in The Hague, where the grandmother of Toosje lived.
